I’d like to welcome our guest author — Marie Higgins
“Magic is believing in yourself, if you can do that, you can make anything happen.” Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
I love this quote! It’s so easy to become discouraged in our everyday life, and we are tempted to give up. We don’t even try. This quote tells me that if we can’t believe in ourselves, we are nothing. The Magic comes when we believe!
I’ve been writing for about 20 years now, and I have had plenty of ups and downs—mostly downs. At the time I was trying to develop my writing talent (yeah, mine didn’t come naturally like some authors I know), I was also working a full time job and raising a family. That’s very hard. I could have given up many times. But I didn’t. I knew what I wanted out of life, and what I really enjoyed doing. I had so many stories in my head (and I still have them), that I knew there was a reason I heard voices and had romantic dreams at night. Mainly, they were my hero and heroine…and occasionally a villain who talked to me. I love writing romances—and falling in love over and over again.
Now those voices in my head are part of me. They can be silly or serious. They can want a normal life, or one that conflicts come at them in all directions. Sometimes they like a little mystery and suspense. They also like to surprise people…which means that there will always be some kind of twist at the end of the story.
I’m very happy of all that I’ve accomplished so far in my life. And I have NOT given up! I love entertaining people…and if truth be told, I entertain myself, too. heeheee
What do I think makes a successful writer? Determination! A writer must be determined to keep at it and continue to learn. If they aren’t, they are just another fish in the sea with a bunch of other fishes who like to write. But it’s those writers who are determined to write their hearts out and keep learning that make the best and most successful writers.
My latest release is a Regency romance with a little humor. It’s a short story, which is why it’s only 99 cents.
Becoming A Lady
Dorothy Paxton is not pleased when a handsome Englishman walks into her inn and announces he’s taking her to England to reunite her with the grandfather who turned his back on her years ago. Her escort, Calvin Seton, bribes her by paying her brother’s doctor’s bills, and soon she’s on the ship sailing for London. Little by little, Calvin’s charm softens her heart. While her lady’s companion teaches her to become a lady, Dorothy is secretly wondering if the price of love is worth it. Especially when she knows Calvin will walk out of her life as soon as they reach England.
Can she afford the cost of love?

I love Goethe, and the quote. And yo are right. One must be determined!! Great interview
Lovely post, Marie. You are so right, it takes determination. I tweeted. (but you knew I would)
What a fantastic post, Marie. As a writer, I identify so much with what you’ve shared…the constant ups and downs…well, more downs at this point. But you captured it all so eloquently! I’m also a huge fan of your work. I devour it all the moment it comes out. So thank you for sharing your own personal thoughts as a writer in the industry.
Thanks ladies! You are all awesome! And thanks to Leanne for having me here. You have a very lovely blog!!
Marie, I love your quote too, and determination is the key – keep moving forward.
