Booming Thunder

I was waken during the wee hours of the morning to the loud, vibrating boom of thunder. I thought a bomb had gone off or maybe even a meteor had even crashed near where I lived. The house shook. The doors and windows rattled. It caused our sensor light at the screened in porch to come on and stay on. My kitchen lights won’t work now, so I think maybe a fuse must have blown, yet I do have electricity. My stove works, my refrigerator and microwave have power.  In all my years I do not believe I’ve ever been waken by such a sound. Maybe it was intensified by the fact I had been sleeping and dreaming when I heard it. I don’t know, but my dog didn’t bark. Nor did my son stir (okay he’s a teenager they can sleep through anything). But my dog did get up and start sniffing at my french doors, gazing out onto the deck like something might try to come in after that episode.

I finally got back to sleep, but it wasn’t restful. And I had trouble getting up when my alarm went off.

I’m reminded of a lyric from the Carpenter’s song ‘Rainy Days and Mondays always gets me down’. I’m feeling that today, but I’m going to try to turn my frown upside down into a smile. It’s going to be a beautiful day even if it is rainy.
