Guest Author Monday

This week we have guest author — Nikki Lynn Barrett with us. Welcome Nikki!

What’s in a name?

Or at least, what’s in a nick name?  Hi everyone, my name is Nikki Lynn Barrett…and I’m talking about nick names today. Why? Well, nick names are a bit of an important part of my latest book, Baby Stetson. You see, Baby Stetson is a nickname for my heroine, Avery. And there is indeed a story behind it.

I’ve had plenty of nick names during my life time, given to me by different people.  From simple, quirky things like Nikaflea,  Nikkifer, or just plain old Nik.  I’ve been called Bright Eyes by one  ex, and Pretty bird by another.  Nick names are always there, it seems.  So I used the fun of nicknames to create a story.

Baby Stetson’s heroine, Avery, has tried to ditch her childhood  nickname.  But Baby Stetson  name follows her everyone, and her band mates convinced her to use the name for their band. And of course, everyone, including the handsome new stranger in town by the name of Lucas, wants to know where the name comes from.

But for Avery, it dredges up old memories. It’s not that she hasn’t had a good life, because she has, but Avery’s nickname reminds her of the things she doesn’t know about herself.  Avery was adopted after being abandoned, and back then, the media dubbed her as the baby in a Stetson, shortened to Baby Stetson.

Maybe having a nickname that follows her around won’t be so bad after all. Maybe it could lead to things.

So, what kind of nicknames have followed you around? Do you enjoy nicknames? Giving them, having them? I know I do. I give my son quite a few nick names, as I enjoy to give my husband nick names. It makes life fun and interesting.

Thanks for reading along, and I appreciate the opportunity to hang out here on the blog today!

Love and Music in Texas, Book One

In small Texas towns, strangers come and go…

Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love…only the knowledge of her past.

By day she works the Inn, but by night…Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good…stable, until new guests blew into town.

Some strangers come with secrets and lies.

Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn’t matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery.

Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know.

Each time they’re near the other things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie.

But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start.
